ZTE Open a new handset powered by Firefox OS is now available in India via ebay.in. The handset houses a 1GHz single core qualcomm snapdragon processor with Adreno 200 GPU and is priced at Rs. 8,590.

The hardware specifications are not that impressive but the key highlight is the Firefox OS. This new OS runs on 512MB ROM and 256MB RAM. The capacitive TFT screen is 3.5 inches supporting 480×320 pixels resolution.

CPU is MSM7225A cortex A5 clocked at 1GHZ (Qualcomm Snapdragon) and GPU is Adreno 200. The handset supports 3G, 2G, comes with built in Wi-Fi (b/g/n), Bluetooth and GPS.

There is 2MP rear camera without flash. Battery is 1200 mAh and the handset is 12.5mm thick. The Firefox OS is relatively new and you are not going to find too many apps listed in the Firefox marketplace.

Social networking apps are supported; you can get Twitter and Facebook running. However I don’t think whatsapp is supported as of now, I could not find the whatsapp in the market place. The price of Rs. 8,590 seems a bit on the higher side especially when one is not sure if this new OS would really take off. Too early to comment so better to wait and watch.
