ZTE Open handset powered by Firefox Operating System, now goes on sales in Spain. The handset comes loaded with low end specs and the main USP is of course the new Firefox OS. The ZTE Open is priced at Euro 69.

The ZTE Firefox powered handset will be made available in 9 countries. No word if and when the ZTE Open will be available in India. And if it does it, I believe it will fall under the affordability range probably under Rs. 7,000.

As for the handset specifications, there is nothing too impressive about it. The ZTE open comes powered by MSM7225A S1 Snapdragon processor clocked at 1GHz with 256MB RAM and 4GB storage. There is a 3.2 MP fixed focus primary camera. It seems like a single SIM handset.

The touchscreen is 3.5 inches with 480×320 pixel resolution. The new Firefox mobile OS does support Facebook and whatsapp messaging app. Other features are Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3.5mm audio jack and micro USB port.

The handset gets power from a 1200 mAh battery. The OS is new but the specs are well known. If the OS in this initial stages does get a positive response it could turn out to be a good competitor to Android OS.
