Zopo ZP950+ review – The big 5.7 inch quad core

Zopo ZP950+ is another quad core handset with a bigger screen of 5.7 inches with HD resolution. The handset comes with 8MP camera, dual SIM support and runs on the Jelly Bean OS. The ZP950+ is priced at Rs. 15,999 with 4GB internal storage and Rs. 16,999 with 16GB storage.

Box Pack
Inside the box there is this ZP950+ 5.7 inch Phablet, travel charger, USB data cable, earphone, 2500 mAh battery, user manual, screen guard and as per the Zopo website they are also offering free flip cover.

Design
The ZP950+ is 10.2 mm thick and weighs around 200 grams. It is a big handset of dimensions 83.4x158x10.2mm.  There is a dedicated physical button on the front side with 2MP camera plus the sensors. The power button and volume rockers are present on the right side. The micro USB port on the bottom side and a 3.5mm jack on the top side.

The built quality is very good. The rear side has got glossy grey texture finishing that gives a premium look. There is however a big disadvantage with the design, there is just a single physical button but no additional touch buttons, and hence the on-screen buttons are visible without which you cannot navigate.

The best option would have been to either add those two missing buttons or simply remove the dedicated physical button.

Zopo ZP950+ review

Display: The 5.7 inch IPS screen supports resolution of 1280×720 pixels with 16M colours. The screen quality, viewing angle is good and touch butter smooth.

Memory and Storage: The handset comes with 1GB RAM (651MB Free) and of 4GB storage, 1.48GB is allocated for apps (1.4GB free) and 1.29GB as phone storage.

OS: Loaded with Android 4.1 – upgradable to Android 4.2.

Hardware: It’s the same MT6589 Quad core CPU @ 1.2GHz with PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU.  Benchmark scores are as follows.

Benchmark scores

  • Quadrant Benchmark: 3821.
  • Antutu Benchmark: 12372.
  • Nenamark2: 39.2 fps.
  • Linpack : Single 34, Multi 94.
  • Multi Touch: 5 point.

Camera: There is a front 2MP camera and a rear camera of 8MP. You can set the camera to 12MP resolution though. You can check the picture quality in sample images listed at the end of this review. You can record videos in 1080p video @ 24fps. There is built in LED flash.

Connectivity: The handset supports dual SIM with dual standby mode. The 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS worked well. GPS does take some time for the first lock.

Entertainment and Gaming: You can watch full HD videos with ease and it looks even better on a bigger screen. The Nova 3 game got installed and had no lags whatsoever, cause of the missing dedicated buttons even when playing the game you will find the onscreen buttons visible.

Battery: The 2500 mAh battery gives a standby time of up to 200 hours and should last for a day.

Conclusion: A good powerful quad core handset with bigger screen. If you are used to touch navigation (hardware) buttons then you will not like the combination of single dedicated button plus on screen buttons. For many users the 5.7 inch is just too big. The price seems good but again as mentioned before – all depends on the after sales support. A 5 inch phone like the MMX A116, Zopo 910, Wammy Titan II would be the best option and those looking for under 5 inch screen can check out the Xolo q800.
