The Xolo Q800 was an amazing phone with a very good price tag, but some of the users who recently bought the Q800 have claimed that the chipset has been downgraded. Most of the users are not happy with this sudden change without any intimation.

I have done a review on the Xolo Q800 and at that time it came powered by Mediatek MT6589 quad core chipset. But some recent comments on the same article did surprise me. Some users have complained that the chipset is MT6589M or MT6589W-M.

You can find out more out the MT6589 chipset versions here. But the fact is that the MT6589M cannot record videos in full HD resolution. The PowerVR SGX 544 MP GPU is also under-clocked at 156MHz. The best way to confirm the MT6589M is that it can record 720p videos only and 1080p video playback do not work in H/W mode using MX player, though it does work pretty well when using the S/W mode. I have done a review on Xolo Q700 that uses the MT6589M quad core chipset.

Leave a comment if you have recently bought the Q800 and have found the chipset to be different. Also make sure when recording the video, change the video quality to fine (by default it is set to a lower resolution), and let us know.
