Xiaomi has started sending invites for the launch event in New Delhi on 12 March 2015. The tag line says – ‘Taking it to the Next Level’, they have not given any clues, but most likely it could be the Redmi 2 that will be announced tomorrow.
Xiaomi Redmi 2 was launched in China about 60 days ago and it looks like it will be the next in India. This handset comes with dual SIM slots powered by qualcomm snapdragon 410 64 bit (Cortex A53) quad core processor clocked at 1.2GHz with Adreno 306 GPU. It is running MIUI 6 based on android 4.4.
The handset supports 4G and probably might come with optional 1GB RAM with 8GB storage or 2GB RAM with 16GB storage. IPS Screen is 4.7 inches supporting 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. There is micro SD support too – max 32GB. Redmi 2 also comes packed with 8MP rear AF camera with flash and a 2MP camera on the front. Weight is 133 grams and thickness is 9.4mm.
A 2200 mAh Li-Po battery (Samsung make) powers up the handset and should give a good backup time. Key features are 4G, 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. Pricing will definitely play an important role, so let’s see what the company will price this at. Redmi 1S closest and biggest competitor is the Lenovo A6000.
