Wickedleak Wammy Note 3 review – Octa core with FHD screen

The Wammy Note 3 is a low budget octa core powered handset that runs KitKat with 2GB RAM. It sports a 5.2 inch screen with 1080p resolution. This handset is available in 16GB and 8GB storage options. The 8GB version is available for Rs. 12,990.

Box Pack
Inside the box you will find the Note 3, data cable, travel charger, standard earphone, ear phone plug caps, user manual, 3800 mAh battery and very good quality flip cover with S-window.

OS, Design and Display
This handset is running Android KitKat version 4.4.2. Build quality is very good and the rear side is matte finish with dotted textures. The handset in fact is a Samsung Galaxy S5 clone. Had it not been for the Wickedleak logo on the rear one would have easily mistaken it for the Galaxy S5.

Wammy Note 3 weight with battery is 148 grams and dimensions are 73.84mm x 143.08mm x 8.46mm. This is a dual SIM handset, there is a normal SIM slot and a micro SIM slot plus a micro SD card slot.

This handset sports a 5.2 inch screen with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. Viewing angles, colour reproduction and the touch sensitivity are very good. There is LED notification.

There are accelerometer, proximity, light and magnetic sensors.

Memory and Storage
Note 3 comes packed with 2GB RAM and 16GB / 8GB storage options. For the review I got the 16GB version. On the first boot the free RAM was 1.3GB and 2.27GB of internal storage is allocated for apps and about 11GB is the phone storage.

In preferred install location there is no option to select the external SD card and hence apps cannot be installed / moved to external storage. OTG is supported.

Performance
Well it is using the well known MediaTek MT6592 octa core clocked at 1.7Ghz with Mali 450 MP GPU. Performance is lag free. When playing FHD video in a loop I got the over battery temperature issue but the handset was not as hot as expected.

Benchmark

App Result
Quadrant 15613
Antutu Crashed.
Vellamo Metal (911) Multi core (1376) Browser (2352)
Nenamark 2 46.1fps
Multi Touch 5 point

The Antutu app crashed, it had happened before when I was working on the Swipe Sense review, seems like the latest Antutu app has some issues.

Camera and Entertainment
The still image and the video quality is above average. Rear camera is 13MP with LED flash support and front camera is 5MP as mentioned on the box but you can set it up to 8MP in 4:3 aspect ratio. There is no HDR option.

This handset can play Full HD videos in both hardware and software mode via MX Player.

Gaming
There is no option to install app on external storage. I played the Asphalt 8 and MC5 both these games got installed on the internal phone storage. No issue found when playing these games; they were smooth and very much playable.

Others
The ringtone volume is loud. In-call sound is also good. 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth worked well. The flip cover comes with the S-View window you can control certain apps from the S-View window itself. The Flip cover is magnetic it will switch on the screen when you open the flip.

Battery
The Note 3 from Wickedleak comes with a 3800 mAh battery. You can expect battery backup of up to 3 to 6 hours on a single charge. With normal usage you can expect a very good battery life.

Task Time Battery drop (%) (max temp)
Running Benchmark apps 29 minutes 11% (39)
FHD video playback (loop) with Wi-Fi on + full brightness 33 minutes 9% (47) [battery temperature issue]
MC5 + Asphalt 8 GamePlay 24 minutes 11% (45)

Verdict
The Wammy Note 3 is powerful and comes loaded with good features. It is dual SIM, octa core powered with 2GB RAM and running Kitkat. Camera is very good above average and battery backup is also pretty good. Screen is with FHD resolution.

Wammy Note 3 is priced at Rs. 12,990 for the 8GB ROM without AquaProtect, with AquaProtect water proof technology it will cost extra. This handset is competing with the Micromax Canvas Nitro for almost the same price.
