The Webs-Den Octate is another octa core powered smartphone running Android KitKat 4.4.4+ (will get android lollipop update) over a 5.5 inch LTPS screen with full HD resolution. The handset comes with 3GB RAM, 32GB storage and micro SD card support. It is priced at approx Rs. 30K.
Unboxing
Inside the box you will find the handset, battery of 3450 mAh capacity, user guide, travel charger, data cable and good quality earphone.
Build, Design and Display
The Webs-Den Octate has got a good build however the finishing is not so good considering the price, it could have been better. The back panel has got textures that help get a good grip. This handset is available in Black and White colour options. Weight with battery is 155 grams and dimensions are 76.49 x 151 x 7.35mm.
The logo and the text on the back panel really spoils the look. Because of the overlapping textures they look faded and gives a cheap look to the handset. Volume rocker is placed on the left, micro USB at the bottom and audio jack on the top side. On the right side you will find the power button and a dedicated camera button. There are dual microphones for noise cancellation.
The Octate sports a 5.5 inch screen and as per the specs it comes with corning gorilla glass 3 protection. It’s a LTPS screen with clearmotion and miravision enhancer/display optimizer, screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels. Colour reproduction and viewing angles are very good. Touch is smooth and responsive.
There is LED notification and the handset comes loaded with the following sensors – accelerometer, light, proximity, gyro and magnetic.
Memory, Storage and OS
There is 3GB DDR3L RAM + 2GB burst /vRAM and 32GB of internal storage along with micro SD card support. Of the 3GB RAM you will get about 2.2GB free RAM and of the 32GB space, about 27GB free on the first boot. Apps can be installed / moved to external storage. OTG also works (supported). Android 4.4.4+ is running out of the box (it will get Lollipop update).
Performance
This handset is powered by MediaTek MT6595 1.7GHz Octa Core (32 bit) chipset ( Cortex A7 quad core + Cortex A17 quad core). Its the big.LITTLE chipset coupled with PowerVR Rouge Han GPU. Performance is very smooth and lag free. Antutu Benchmark shows 2GHz frequency.

Quadrant | 21003 |
Antutu (64-bit) | 43846 |
Vellamo | Metal (1618) Multi core (1830) Browser (3721) |
Nenamark 2 | 59.5 fps |

Gaming
You can install apps on external storage. I played Asphalt 8 in highest visual quality mode, game play was very smooth. This game got installed on the external storage. Hardware is powerful and can install / play many high end games.
Camera
There is a 20MP AF camera on rear with LED flash and 8MP on the front. The camera is with Carl Zeiss Lens. It can shoot FHD video and slow motion videos at 60fps. Still image and video quality is above average but I would have expected it to perform better considering the 20MP resolution. At times the camera is not able to focus close up objects.
Video shot in slow motion mode looks really cool. It also records the sound and will play it in slow motion mode so it syncs with slow motion video, you can check the output on the phone, however when you download the video file on PC, the video is in slow motion but the audio is played normally, and hence you really don’t get that effect as experienced on the phone.
This handset can play 4K videos.
Others
No issues found. In Call / Speaker sound is loud and clear. Handset supports 4G (Support all 5 bands of 4G including the latest XLTE 4G network), 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC and Bluetooth. This is a dual SIM handset with 2 micro SIM slots.
Battery
This handset comes with removable 3450 mAh battery but the battery performance is not as per mAh. On a full charge you will get about 3 to 5 hours of continuous moderate to heavy usage.
Task | Time | Battery drop (%) (max temp) |
Running Benchmark apps | 18 minutes | 7% (41) |
4K video playback with Wi-Fi on + full brightness | 16 minutes | 6% (39) |
Asphalt 8 Game Play | 14 minutes | 7% (42) |
Full Wall Charge | 2 hours 40 minutes | 0% to 100% |
Verdict
It is a good handset loaded with good features, however it is way overpriced at Rs. 30,000. The Lenovo Vibe X2 is using the same big.LITTLE MediaTek 6595 chipset with 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, 5 inch FHD screen, 13MP/5MP camera, 2300 mAh battery and Vibe X2 is available for Rs. 18,000.
Webs-Den Octate is available for Rs. 30,400.
