Here is another low cost Allwinner CPU powered tablet called Wammy. This 7 inch capacitive touchscreen tablet comes with 512 MB Ram and 4 gigs of internal storage. External 3G is supported and there is built in Wi-Fi.
Specification wise the Wammy tab is similar to Xtab A10 (4G), Micromax Funbook (4 GB) and other tabs powered by Allwinner CPU with Mali 400 GPU. Let’s have a look at this wammy tablet from Wickedleak.
Box Pack
There are quite a few surprises in the box, along with the tablet you get a free capacitive pen and a tablet pouch. Other contents in the box pack are Power adapter (with pin), USB cable, earphone and user manual.
Design
The tablet is slightly curved backwards on left and the right side and inwards towards the top and the bottom side – as seen in the image below. The design gives a better grip and is more comfortable to hold.
There are open ports on the right side and buttons on the top. The buttons functions are different. There is a power, menu and esc buttons. The volume rocker button is replaced by the Menu / ESC physical buttons, and you will find the volume options on-screen. There is a front camera which is placed on the extreme right unlike in the center.
Processor and Memory
This tab houses the Allwinner CPU and Mali 400 GPU which is being used in many low cost tablets. There is 512 MB RAM and 4 GB flash. You can play HD videos at 1080p resolution and even play HD games.
Display
The touchscreen is 7 inches support 800 x 480 pixels resolution. There is a fingerprint resistance film on the screen which prevents finger print marks etc and makes it even smoother to operate. The touch is responsive and there is no need to wipe the screen as there are hardly any print marks on it.
OS
The tab comes loaded with Android 4.0 OS. What I got is a review piece which had limited number of apps but the retail version will have even more apps and games.
Multimedia
This tab can play MOV, AVI, DAT, MPEG, MP4, FLV and many other formats. 1080 p videos are supported and you can use the HDMI port capable of decoding videos at 2160p resolution. You can play your favourite audio files too. I tried playing 1080p movie which was smooth and no issues so far.
Others
This tab can be used for reading TXT, PDF, FB2, LRC and EPUB e-book formats. Additional features are Wi-Fi, G sensor, front VGA camera, 2 USB ports (USB and Mini USB) and microSD card up to 32 GB.
Battery
The Wammy comes with a 3000 mAh Li-ion battery. This tab comes with Li-ion battery unlike the Li-PO batteries found on other tablet.
Battery Performance
Full Charge: Around 3 hours.
Movie playback: More than 4+ hours with Wi-Fi off. (Played 2:05 hours movie for two times with 20% battery still available.)
Standby: Over a week, with Wi-Fi off.
Continuous Web Browsing using Wi-Fi: Approx 3 hours.
Wickedleaks are also constantly upgrading the OS for better performance.
Performance
The overall performance is good, it can play HD games, tried playing ShadowGun, Asphalt 6 which was smooth, ASPhalt 6 worked well with the G-sensors. When browsing there was a rendering lag, we have seen this on many tablets. Even when viewing images (zooming in) there is a brief lag, which is acceptable. Because of the fingerprint film the touch experience was much better.
