Wammy Ethos 3G tablet comes with built in 3G with standard features including Bluetooth. Here is the hands on review of Ethos 3G the 1024×600 pixels variant.

There are two variant of Wammy Ethos tablets sold by Wickedleak. The 7 inch screen of 800×480 pixels with 512MB RAM and another one with a 1024×600 pixel resolution with 1GB RAM.  The review unit that I got came with 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage and 1024x600p resolution – the high-end model.

Box Pack
I got the review piece from Wickedleak and I was told that the box pack will be different for the 1024 version. Hence in the video review I have not shown the Unboxing video instead started off with the box pack content.  Inside the box you will find the tablet, power adapter, USB to micro USB cable – now this one is to connect directly with the PC (not an converter + extension), earphone and user manual.

Ethos Design
The design of 800x resolution tablet is different from the 1024 tablet. In fact the high-end tablet has got a even more classy look. The white and black combination adds flavour to it. The built quality is getting better and better day by day, not just for Wammy tablet, but in general.

This one too comes with perfect finish, the micro USB slot further helps align the other components (HDMI, 3.5mm etc) perfectly. The curves are just perfect. On the front side there are dedicated buttons (touch sensitive) and a VGA camera.

On top side there is the power button, volume rockers and the SIM card slot which is shifted down a little bit. The right side houses all the other ports namely micro USB, Mini HDMI, 3.5mm jack, mic, and DC in. Most tablets today have replaced the mini USB with micro USB port which looks better and also helps trim some fat around the edges.

Hardware
The Wammy Ethos 3G runs on Allwinner A10 CPU with Mali 400 GPU. The clock speed is 1GHz. You will find common features like Wi-Fi and G-Sensor. The new things added on Ethos are built in 3G slot that can hold 2G or 3G SIM card and Bluetooth. Sadly GPS is missing but had that been included it would have been like icing on a cake. Anyway the cake still tastes good.

The 7 inch capacitive touchscreen looks even better with 1024x800p resolution. It’s ideal for users who love reading ebooks. The fonts are sharper and clearer.

Wammy Ethos Performance
The hardware i.e. the Allwinner A10 + Mali needs no introduction. We have already seen the performance. This tab got a score of 1487 from Quadrant benchmark tool.  Performance wise it is similar to the other Allwinner A10 tablet and much depends on the customised ROM.

Almost all of the games that worked on Wammy 7 will work on the Wammy Ethos 3G. This tab runs on Android 4.0 (Ice cream Sandwich) OS.

Phone call features and 3G
The build in 3G definitely is an advantage, there is no need for an external dongle. You can surf the net at high-speed up to 3.1 Mbps over the 3G network. You can use this tab as a phone too. There is no dedicated in-call speaker which you can bring near to your ear – just like a phone. And hence you need the earphone, Bluetooth headset or you can use the built in loudspeaker / mic.

I tried using the tab as a phone with headset as well as with a Bluetooth headset, both worked perfectly fine. The output via loudspeaker is too low, it’s better to use Bluetooth or earphones.

Games
Here are the screenshot of games that I tried which worked pretty well.

Extra Note
The earphones are of very good quality. The tab at full volume sounds good enough in a silent room. If you are using the earphones make sure to reduce the volume to less than 50% – it’s too loud. There is the front camera of 1.3MP resolution – good for Skype video chat.

Battery Performance
The battery is of 3500 mAh capacity that gives a usage time of about 4 to 5 hours. I kept the tab ON for 6 hours with Wi-Fi off, 3G data off, Bluetooth ON paired with Bluetooth headset – just in case if I receive any phone calls. The battery was at 86 and after 6 hours of standby it dropped down to 79.

Another test, playing a movie – 3G data OFF, phone ON in standby, Wi-Fi off.
