It’s been nearly a month since I got the Tata Indicom photon plus wireless mobile broadband connection. In general I am happy with the performance and have already crossed the 5GB limit with 10 more days to go, to complete the monthly billing cycle and am now on 156 kbps speed, which is also good.  The Tata Indicom Photon Plus broadband connection is good for general surfing and normal downloading, however not that good for those who download too much.

Here is my experience with the Tata Indicom photon plus wireless mobile broadband USB device

  • Speed is really good much better than my 500 kbps unlimited wire-broadband.  Though however you enjoy high speed up to a specific limit after which you get 156 kbps. All depends on the tariff plan you choose.
  • Web Pages loads faster in just a second of two. But I was really impressed with the YouTube performance. Just play the YouTube video and you can immediately see the video without interruption and the file gets loaded long before you complete watching the video.
  • Normal downloads speed is excellent. With normal downloads I mean (direct downloads from sites). For example software, browsers, Windows Update, Ubuntu Update and for example the latest Firefox 4.0, I could download it much, much faster.
  • The performance however was low when I wanted to download files from Rapidshare, MegaUpload and such kind of sites. Even software’s like JDownloader that simplifies downloading from hosters failed to get the desired download speed. It seems Tata has set some filters on sites which are mostly used for downloading heavy files like the popular Rapidshare.  When you try to download files from such sites you get download speed of just around 10kbps.
