Spice Mobiles has joined hands with India’s leading e-commerce website Flipkart. They will sell their devices (smartphones) exclusively on Flipkart by mid September 2014. Flipkart will also put up a dedicated store for the Spice Brand.

When it comes to making the product available in the Indian Markets the Manufacturers are now looking at different approach. It started with Motorola launching their Moto G handset at an affordable price and they made it available exclusively on Flipkart, the phone was not available offline (in stores), and still made it to the hot selling gadget list.

The new players Xiaomi also did the same and have got great response. Some more brands have also followed the same pattern – e.g. the recently launched Micromax Canvas Nitro on Snapdeal. Online sales is the new trend and in most cases the handsets are made available online, and difficult to find in retail stores.

The companies are now directly approaching the online stores for many reasons – their product is made available immediately, the company gets good margin as they are directly selling to online stores – they may even pass the benefit to the customers making the product cheaper.

Online sales are the future and with higher net penetration in India, it is just going to get even better.
