Samsung has gone official with the Galaxy S5 Mini that was in the news in May and in June 2014. As expected the S5 Mini will be a trimmed down version of the flagship model the Galaxy S5. Interestingly the S5 Mini will also come with heart and fingerprint sensors as seen on the S5.

The Galaxy S5 Mini will initially be rolled out in the Russian markets this month and then we could see the Global launch pretty soon. Pricing will be the key factor and so far Samsung has not revealed the price of S5 Mini. It will however be cheaper than the Galaxy S5.

The S5 Mini specifications were leaked in early June (last month). This new Mini version will be powered by a quad core processor (1.4GHz – chipset unknown) and will sport a 4.5 inch screen. It will be a Super AMOLED screen with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution.

The Mini will be packed with 16GB on-board storage, external card support (64GB) and 1.5GB RAM. KitKat will run out of the box. The Mini will also comes with an 8MP rear camera with Auto focus and flash support and another camera of 2.1MP resolution placed on the front.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini with quad core, heart and fingerprint sensors

When it comes to the weight the S5 Mini is lighter at 120 grams and it is about 9.1mm thick. There are accelerometer, light, magnetic, proximity and gyro sensors. Other features are 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS (GLONASS), Infrared and Bluetooth 4.0.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini houses a 2100 mAh battery that should easily give a moderate to heavy usage time of up to or over 24 hours. No word as to when the Mini will be rolled out globally, it’s availability and price in India. The expected price in India could be well under Rs. 30,000 as the Galaxy S5 is already selling for approx Rs. 35,000.
