The most awaited phone Samsung Galaxy S3 is already available in India for a premium price of under Rs. 39,000. The handset sports a 4.8 inch screen running Android ICS and an 8 MP camera and many other high end features all sailing on a powerful quad core processor.
Design
The handset has got the curvy design with a dedicated home button placed just below the touchscreen. The Samsung Galaxy build quality is just good, doesn’t really have that premium finish though. The white colour handset looks normal, just like any other handset but the Pebble Blue colour is really something which adds more style.
Screen
The Samsung Galaxy S3 sports a 4.8 inch capacitive Super HD AMOLED display touchscreen display with an excellent resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels with 16 million colours. Well the resolution is even better than most Netbooks. The pixel density is 306 which means you will hardly notice any pixels around text or images. With AMOLED screen you can view the screen even when under direct sunlight.
There is the light sensor (Ambient light sensor) which will automatically adjust the brightness so you can view the screen comfortably no matter how your surrounding environment is.
Camera
The 8 MP camera quality on the Samsung Galaxy S3 is too good and with LED flash you can get the best shot in low light conditions. The front camera is of 1.9 MP resolution. Camera features are Smile/ face detection, image stabilizer, auto focus etc. Videos at 1280 x 720 pixel resolution is supported at 30fps. The camera can shoot continuous photos (8 max) and can automatically choose the best one out of it.
Performance – Samsung Galaxy S3 review
The 1.4 GHz Quad Core (Exynos) processor coupled with Mali 400 GPU along with 1 GB RAM will ensure extraordinary performances. The Android ICS OS with TouchWiz 4.0 runs very smoothly, and you can even play almost all HD, 3D (you name it) games that are available on Google play. This handset comes with the latest technology and if you use any benchmarking tool you will find the Samsung Galaxy S3 performance, on the top.
The Media player can play MP3, MP3 and other common files along with DivX, WMV and HD videos. There is plenty of space thanks to the built in internal memory of 16 GB of which about 11 GB is free. There is also a microSD slot that can hold up to 64 GB microSD card.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 handset is loaded with some new feature the Smart Alert (it knows when you are away), direct call (it known when you want to call), S-Beam (share content with other S3 or device that support S-Beam by simply placing the handset back to back), S-Voice which you can say is similar to Apple Siri and there is another feature called Smart Stay which tacks the face by using the front camera. The Smart Stay is a more human friendly feature where in the screen never times out as long as the camera can track the users face.
This is very useful when you are reading content on a website. Now on a normal phone the screen would time out after few seconds and you will either need to switch it on or perform some activity so as to avoid the timeout. With Smart Stay there is no need to the phone is intelligent enough to know when the user is reading the content. This is a very good and unique feature but at times fails when you are not in a suitable lighted environment (example – a dark room).
There is one more exciting feature on the Samsung Galaxy S3 called pop up play which as the name suggests works with videos. Say for example you are busy chatting with your friend and are also watching a movie. In normal handsets when you get a message you would move to the messenger which would pause the movie and when you are finished replying and come back to the movie, it starts playing.
With Pop up play feature you can pop up the video player on the messenger, so you can watch the movie as well as send / receive messages at the same time.
Other features
3G (21 Mbps HSDPA; 5.76 Mbps HSUPA), 2G, Wi-Fi, micro USB, Wi-Fi with hotpot, GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA, voice input, S Beam, Accelerometer, RGB Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Gyro Sensor ,Barometer and Compass.
Price: This handset is selling for under Rs. 39,000 which isn’t bad considering the feature that you are getting. The looks may not be appealing but the performance definitely makes the S3 worthy.
Samsung Galaxy S3 32GB is available for Rs. 41,400.
