Design
I got the golden colour On5 handset and it looked really great. The Golden back panel comes with nice textures that enhances the look and the front panel is also golden colour that complements well with the over look and design.
Bottom side is slightly broader compared to the top. Handset weight with battery is 148 grams and dimensions are 72.14 x 141.11 x 8.41 (mm). The body is made of plastic and sides are silver colored – metallic matte finish with shiny silver borders.
Power button is on the right, volume rocker on the left and audio jack, micro USB and mic is placed at the bottom. This is a dual SIM handset – SIM 1 and SIM 2 are micro SIM slots and both these slots support 4G. There is a micro SD card slot too.
There is no LED notification, native video calling is supported. The On5 comes with just 2 sensors – accelerometer and proximity. Like the Galaxy J5 and J7 this one also does not come with light sensor, you will need to manually adjust the brightness as required.
Display
Galaxy On5 sports a 5 inch screen with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. It’s a TFT screen, not an AMOLED. Colour reproduction, viewing angles and touch response are good.
Memory, Storage and OS
The Galaxy On5 is loaded with 1.5GB RAM and 8GB storage. On the first boot you will get around 4GB free space and 698MB free RAM. OTG is supported. Apps are getting installed on the internal storage, but you can move some apps to external storage.
The On5 is running TouchWiz UI on Android Lollipop 5.1.1 (32 Bit).
Performance
This handset is using Exynos 3475 32 Bit quad core chipset clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with Mali T720 GPU. Performance is smooth, handset does not heat up, no lags, however when it comes to gaming at higher levels you do feel it lagging.

I installed Asphalt 8 (internal storage). Game was playable in High mode but at higher levels I did feel it lagging. I tried playing in medium and low quality mode, it was better is low quality mode.
Camera
There is 8MP AF camera on the rear with flash and 5MP with wide Selfie support on the front. Camera quality is above average. Rear camera can shoot FHD videos. Do check the sample images and videos at the end of this review.
Others
Sound is loud and clear, in-call sound is also pretty good. No issues with 4G, 3G, GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth.
There Ultra power saving mode and ultra data saving mode. Data saving mode will restrict background data to save bandwidth and will also compress data using opera max.
Battery
There is 2600 mAh removable battery that does a pretty impressive job. You can expect 3 to 6 hours of continuous usage (moderate to heavy). I got almost 2 days of battery backup on a single charge.

Verdict
The Samsung Galaxy On5, specially the gold colour version looks really premium. Overall performance is smooth and lag free, however when it comes to gaming you might find it struggling a bit. The 8MP camera quality is impressive. Overall a good package considering the brand.
There are handsets with better specifications available but if you are looking for a branded smartphone with known after sales support, the Samsung Galaxy On5 is a good option.
