Samsung Galaxy On Nxt review – Exynos Octa core powered

Samsung launched the Galaxy On Nxt it in fact is exactly similar to the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime that was silently launched few weeks back. Check this Samsung Galaxy on Nxt review to know about how well the handset performs.

Galaxy On Nxt Review

Inside the box  (Unboxing) : On Nxt handset, SIM tray ejector pin, quick start guide, warranty card, travel charger 5V / 1.55A, data cable and standard quality earphone.

Design

This handset is packed inside a full metal body with a very good build quality and finishing. On Nxt is comfortable to hold, not at all slippery (back panel is with a matte finish).  Speaker vent is on the right side just above the power button – usually speaker is placed on the back or bottom.

Display

5.5 inch 1920 x 1080p, TFT LCD – colour reproduction, viewing angles and touch response are pretty good. Screen is using 2.5D curved glass that gives a premium feel to the handset. Front looks almost black (screen off).

SIM Slot

There are two slots, SIM slot 1 can house a nano SIM and SIM slot 2 has 2 slots a nano slot and a micro SD card slot. So in all you can use two nano SIM and a micro SD card simultaneously. 4G with VoLTE is supported.

Memory, Storage and OS

3GB RAM and 32GB storage (23GB free). OTG is supported. On Nxt is running Android Marshmallow.

Performance

Samsung Galaxy On Nxt is using Samsung Exynos 7870 octa core chipset 64 bit 1.59GHz with Mali T830 GPU. Performance was smooth with general usage but when it came to gaming the handset clearly lagged.

Benchmark

Quadrant : 3651
AnTuTu : 41863 / 5737 – 2nd time 41328 / 5846
Nenamark 2 : 57.8fps
Disk Speed : 150 MB/s read / 46 MB/s write
Multi Touch : 10 point

Gaming

MC5 (Modern Combat 5) game clearly lagged and the Asphalt 8 game was also lagging in high visual quality mode. (check video review).

Camera

Main camera is 13MP with f/1.9 aperture and with flash support. Front camera is 8MP also with f/1.9 aperture. Camera can shoot FHD videos at 30fps. Camera quality is above average.

Finger print sensor

Present – home button, finger print scanning is decently fast and accurate.

Others

There is LED notification and two sensors – accelerometer and proximity. Light sensor is missing – you will need to manually adjust the brightness.

Network  / Connectivity

4G LTE, VoLTE works I tested with Reliance Jio. No issues with networks. WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS also worked well.

Battery

The 3300 mAh non-removable battery does a good job – 4 to 5 hours non-stop moderate to heavy usage.

Samsung Galaxy On Nxt Battery Performance (time / battery % drop / estimated battery temperature)

  • Running Benchmark app : 19 minutes / 6% / 32 degrees
  • Asphalt 8 + MC5 game play : 26 minutes / 9% / 32 degrees
  • FHD video playback with full brightness (WiFi /4G on) : 25 minutes / 10% / 33 degrees.

Handset heat up is under control – max battery temperature encountered was 33 degrees.

It took me 1 hour 40 minutes to charge from 3% to 100% using wall charger.

Verdict

The On Nxt is powered by octa core processor however when it comes to gaming the hardware fails to perform. Rest of the features are pretty good, camera quality is above average and battery life is decent.

For Rs. 18,490 this handset is pricey.

Rating 3 out of 5
