Micromax may be working on an Android tablet project that will be manufactured and launched in India. There is no official confirmation about it but this should not come as a surprise because there is a huge market for low cost tablets in India and many manufacturers are planning to enter this segment.
We have seen the kind of response for low cost tablets starting with Aakash, well even though it failed in its initial stage. Recently announced BSNL – Penta’s 7 inch low cost android tablets are making wave in the Indian market with a price tag of Rs. 3,250. Some see this as an Aakash competitor.
I am sure there are many manufactures who are working along the low cost tablet line and by the end of 2012 we might see many new tablets in the Indian markets with an affordable price tag.
As per the details on Karan Bajaj’s website, Micromax will probably launch a 7 inch tablet powered by a dual core processor running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Other features that the Micromax ICS tablet may feature is microSD support, 3D capabilities, front facing VGA camera, miniUSB port, DC 5V charger and quad HD output at 2160p. The 2160p output looks useless because there is no TV available in India (as of now) that supports this.
The 7 inch Micromax tablet may see the daylight in India probably next month (March) with a price of under Rs. 15,000. There is official word about it, yet, from Micromax so let’s hope this rumor turns out to be true.
