As per the latest tweet from MMXNewscaster, Micromax next Canvas handset, probably the Micromax canvas 5, could come powered by MTK6592 octa core chipset. This still a rumor, no official word from Micromax, yet.

The MMXNewscaster tweet has revealed some specs and taking clue from other octa core handsets that will hit the Indian markets in early 2014; you can fill in the blanks. The Micromax Canvas 5 (well not sure if that is what it will be called) will be powered by MediaTek octa core MTK6592 chipset.

It will run on Android 4.2 or 4.3 with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. Screen will be of size 5 inches supporting resolution of 1920×1080 pixels.  If you may recall Intex had announced the Intex i17 handset with the same MT6592 chipset, but with bigger screen and lower resolution (720p). You can expect the MMX Canvas 5 to come up with a 13MP camera on the rear with flash and a 5MP front facing.

Other common features that will be included are 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. Battery will be of 3000 mAh capacity. We will have to see if 4G support is included. Smartphones powered by octa core processors are already available on Chinese online stores for around $240 to $350.

Let’s hope Micromax keeps the octa core pricing at a comfortable level.
