In another 4 to 5 years we might see some brands launching smartphones with flexible display screen. This is good news for users who are more worried about the touchscreen getting damaged.

Will handset come with flexible display, well yes and in fact at CES 2013, Samsung already showcased the YOUM flexible OLED display. Microsoft is also working on the same and has a prototype ready. The technology is still in its initial stages and it could be another 4 to 5 years or even less until the consumers get ‘flexible’ hands-on experience and can even own one.

The Super AMOLED flexi screen that Samsung showcased was with 1280×720 pixels resolution; probably we could see one with a higher resolution (full HD). Samsung is also working on Galaxy S4 that will come with unbreakable display screen.

The main issue with smartphones that we are using today is, durability, drop it once and the chances are high that you might need another phone. The future technologies are making smartphones stronger and flexible.

With flexi display handsets could get more compact and even more portable. But it’s still a long way, probably few more years.
