The Nubia N1 is another handset available in India that comes with a 5000 mAh battery. This handset will definitely give a very good battery life. But does the handset perform in other areas, read this review to find out.

Unboxing the Nubia N1

The box pack is slim, inside you will get the handset, user manual, warranty card, SIM tray ejector pin, USB Type C data cable and travel charger 5V/2A. The SAR value mentioned on the box – 0.431 W/Kg.

Design, Display and OS

The Nubia N1 is using Metallic Body, build quality and finishing is very good. In fact the handset looks almost like the Redmi Note 4. The handset is heavy cause of the 5000 mAh non-removable battery. Weight is around 190 grams.

There are dedicated buttons on the front bottom and the home button also includes a circular LED that lights up when there is a notification. You can also customize the light intensity. Nubia N1 comes with accelerometer, magnetic, proximity, light, hall and gyro sensors.

Memory and Storage

This handset that I bought came with 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM. On first boot you will get 22GB free internal storage space and 1.4GB free RAM.

Performance

The Nubia N1 is using MediaTek Helio P10 64 bit MT6755M octa core processor clocked at 1.8GHz with Mali T860 GPU. The performance though is smooth but a bit laggy when playing high end games in high quality mode. Handset also heats up with heavy usage but battery temp is under control. Max battery temperature I encountered was 44 degrees under sunlight.

Modern Combat 5 and Asphalt Game Play on Nubia N1

I played MC5 and the Asphalt 8, MC5 was lagging and so did Asphalt 8 in high quality mode. The game was playable in medium quality mode.

Nubia N1 Camera review

This handset comes with 13MP camera on the front and 13MP on the back. Rear camera is with LED flash support. The camera app gives you a lot of options including pro/manual mode. Camera quality in general is average – looks great on phone / smaller screen but when you check on PC its not that great. Outdoor shoots were great but night slots / low light shots were not so great.

Nubia N1 camera and FP sensor

If you use Pro / manual mode you can get better results. But when using auto mode the performance is  not so great – in low light conditions. This N1 handset can shoot 1080p videos.Video quality is very good and front camera quality is also average.

Others

There is finger print sensor on the back, decently fast and accurate. No issues with 4G / VoLTE / Jio. I did face some minor issue with auto brightness. At times it was slow and most of the time it would go into very low brightness mode.

Other features supported are Split window (run 2 apps on split screen simultaneously), finger print access for apps, dual instance (you can have 2 whatsapp accounts for example on same phone) and edge gestures ( check video review).

Battery

The Nubia N1 comes with 5000 mAh battery. Battery backup is impressive. On a full charge you can expect 6 to 18 hours of non-stop moderate to heavy usage. With mixed usage an easy up to 2 days of battery life.

Nubia N1 Battery Performance (time / battery % drop / estimated battery temperature)

  • Running Benchmark app – 11 minutes / 1% / 37 degree
  • Asphalt 8 + MC5 game play – 20 minutes / 5% / 41 degree
  • FHD video playback with full brightness (WiFi /4G on) – 38 minutes / 6% / 39 degrees

It took me 2 hours  to charge the handset from 20% to 100% using wall charger.  For full charge an estimated 2 hours 45 minutes.

Verdict

The Nubia N1 is a good handset, camera is average (can be improved), battery life is impressive. When you look at this handset and then there is the Redmi Note 4, RN4 is no doubt a better option.
