Nokia has already announced that their next generation handset, the Nokia N9 will soon make its way into the market. The Nokia N9 will feature the new MeeGo OS V1.2 Harmattan running on a powerful 1GHz processor. Technically the features of Nokia N9 are awesome, but if the MeeGo OS does well then this handset will surely give a touch competition to its competitors especially the Apple iPhone 4.
Nokia has for a long time been using the Symbian Operating System. But the Symbian OS is no match to the latest iPhone, Android and Windows Mobile OS that most mobile consumers prefer. It is because of the Symbian OS many consumers are turning away from Nokia. To fill this void, Nokia phones will now come loaded with the new MeeGo Mobile OS.
Nokia N9 Design
The N9 has got a slim body (116.45 x 61.2 x 7.6-12.1mm) with a unique design, a class of its own. The N9 weighs just 135 grams. The handset houses a 3.9 inch touch screen with Gorilla Glass AMOLED display. The scratch resistant Gorilla Glass display is slightly curved and blends perfectly with the uni-body polycarbonate enclosure giving it a one piece look with hardware and battery all tucked inside. Another exiting thing about the Nokia N9 is that there are no buttons on the front side all functions are controlled from the touch screen itself. However the lock screen and volume buttons are placed on the side.
Nokia N9 Display
As already mentioned the display screen is 3.9 inch which supports a resolution of an amazing (FWVGA) 854 x 480 pixels with 16.7 million colours. The display can be easily read even under direct sunlight.
Nokia N9 Memory, Storage and CPU
N9 comes packed with 1GB RAM and with option to choose from 64GB or 16GB storage options. The CPU used is 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU with PowerVR SGX530 GPU and TI OMAP 3630 chipset. Samsung Galaxy S GT I9003 comes with the same CPU configuration.
Nokia N9 Camera
It is but natural that a power packed Nokia smartphone will also feature a powerful camera. N9 comes with 8 megapixel camera with 4x zoom and Dual LED flash. The camera comes with well known Carl Zeiss wide angle lens and supports 16:9 aspect ratio. The Dual LED flash along with a larger f/2.2 aperture makes it possible to capture great quality pictures even in low light conditions.
The Nokia N9 8 megapixel camera can also record video in HD mode at 720p. The camera also features a digital shutter and continuous autofocus mode. Nokia N9 supports 3G and does have a camera in the front side for video calling purpose.
Nokia N9 NFC
NFC or Near Field Communication is a new technology that has been incorporated into the N9 handset. With the NFC your phone can act as a credit card. All that the user needs to do is place the phone near the electronic reader to make payments. This is completely new and in India it will take a lot of time before NFC is implemented, may be by then N9 handset may have already been outdated.
Nokia N9 Connectivity
The N9 handset supports WCDMA (Penta-band WCDMA 850/900/1700/1900/2100) and GSM (Quad-band GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900) and can automatically switch between GSM and WCDMA bands. The N9 MeeGo phone also supports Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi. The users will be able to install social networking apps from OVI store for Twitter and Facebook and many others. Nokia N9 supports HTML 5 and comes with a fast mobile browser that makes use of Webkit 2.
Nokia N9 Multimedia
The N9 can play a variety of audio and video formats and users can connect external headphones to the 3.5 mm audio port. Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Headphones are supported.
Nokia N9 MeeGo OS
N9 will come loaded with the MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan operating system developed with help of user interface framework and Qt cross-platform application. Users can interact with simply swiping their finger. More preference has been given to swipe gestures using which users can for example go to home screen by swiping in any application.
Nokia N9 supports multitasking, users can view all apps running on the screen and choose to switch to the one required. The handset also comes with Turn by Turn navigation system and free maps that work with the build in GPS.
Nokia N9 Battery
A powerful smartphone and an equally powerful battery that is what Nokia N9 is all about. Nokia is known for its excellent battery performance. The Nokia N9 comes with 1450 mAh Li-ion (BV-5JW) standard battery that can play continuous music for about 50 hours, gives a standby of 450 hours on 3G network and up to 380 hours on 2G network. The expected talktime is about 7 hours on 3G network and an amazing 11 hours on 2G network.
