The Micromax Funbook Alpha has now been launched with an attractive price tag of Rs. 5,999. This tab comes with Allwinner A13 chipset and dual Mali 400 GPU.
I really don’t need the Funbook Alpha for the review because I have already done the review of Fronix Star which shares the same features. As we all know that these tabs are made in China and customized as per the need. It’s the same hardware re-branded and sold by different sellers in India.
Design and Display screen
The Alpha design is similar to the Fronix Star, all the buttons on the right side and no buttons anywhere in the front panel. The tab is sleek and light weight.
The screen is capacitive with the standard 800×480 pixels resolution, and with 5 point multi touch. The touchscreen size is 7 inches in size (diagonally).
Performance
Everything is the same except for some minor changes which I have listed at the end of the article. The A13 Allwinner Cortex A8 processor is clocked at 1.2GHz speed coupled with Mali 400 GPU. This along with 512MB RAM and internal storage of 4G does a really good job.
The ICS or Android 4.0 runs the show and users get full access to Google Play. The Micromax Funbook Alpha is no different from the other A13 tablets – also note that the HDMI port is missing (A13 processor does not support HDMI). The Benchmark score is also very good, should be better than the Micromax Funbook.
Battery
This tab comes with modest 2800 mAh battery when compared with a good 4000 mAh on Fronix. You can watch movies on Fronix Star for 4 to 5 hours the same will be less on the Micromax Funbook alpha, probably 3 to 4 hours.
Additional features
The Alpha also comes with USB 2.0, 3G support via external dongle, G-Sensor, 3.5mm audio jack, 0.3 MP front camera and Wi-Fi.

Micromax Funbook Alpha review
The tablet is good, better than the original Funbook but the battery may be a bit disappointing. Also compared with the Fronix Star there are a few differences and yet the star is cheaper. However Micromax being a known brand and have been in the market for a longer time it does have that trust advantage.
