The Micromax A91 sails on the ICS OS with 512MB RAM and powered by a dual core processor. The handset sports a 5MP camera and a touchscreen of 4.5 inches. The Micromax A91 is also called the Micromax Ninja A91 and is priced at Rs. 8,499.
Box Pack
The SAR value as mentioned on the box pack is 0.824 W/kg @1g (head) and 1.14W/kg@ 1g(Body). Inside the pack there is the Ninja A91, battery of 1800 mAh capacity, USB to micro USB cable, power adapter, standard earphone, goodies, hookup guide, user manual, warranty statement and a free screen guard.
The A91 is a Ninja!
When I first heard of the Micromax A91 I thought it was an upgraded version of the Micromax A90s with AMOELD screen. Unfortunately the A91 belongs to the Ninja family and it comes with a TFT LCD Screen.
Design and Display
The front panel is glossy black with grey-silver side and a matte black back cover. The rear cover gives a good grip. The front side looks similar to many models by the rear side is not that appealing. There are 3 touch buttons on the front facing (bottom), in call speaker, front camera and sensors on the top front. The handset is 10mm thick and weight is around 127 grams.
The micro USB and 3.5mm jack is placed on the top side, the power / lock button on the right side and volume rockers on the left side. On the rear there is the speaker out, Micromax logo and 5MP auto focus camera without LED flash.
The 4.5 inch display is TFT LCD with capacitive touchscreen supporting a resolution of 854×480 pixels (217.7ppi). The touch is smooth and the picture quality is good. There is G-Sensor, light and proximity sensors. There is no magnetic sensor.
OS, Memory and Storage
The handset runs on the Android ICS version 4.0.4 OS with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage. Of the 512MB RAM the free RAM is 237MB. Of the 4GB storage 443MB is free for apps and 2GB free as phone storage.
Processor and Benchmark
It’s with ARMv7 processor clocked at 1GHz – Dual Core (MT6577) and GPU is PowerVR SGX 531. Same as on the Micromax A110 and the Lava Iris 501. The benchmark scores are as follows.
Benchmark scores
- Quadrant Benchmark: 2815.
- Antutu Benchmark: 6525.
- Nenamark 2: 26.5 fps.
- Linpack : Single 38, Multi 60.
- Multi Touch: 5 point.
Camera and Entertainment
The rear auto focus camera is of 5MP resolution without LED support. It can record videos in 720p resolution. The camera output I think is okay not something that would encourage you to buy this handset and the same goes for the video. Check out the sample images and videos attached at the end of this article. Front camera is of VGA resolution.
The MX player app once downloaded will be able to play 720p videos and will also support many video formats.
Others
It is a dual SIM handset with dual standby mode. The speaker out is loud and no issues with in-call speaker. The Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth all work fine.
1800 mAh Battery
The battery should be sufficient for the 4.5 inch screen and should last for over 24 hours, easily.
Micromax A91 review
It’s a 4.5 inch dual core handset with a price tag of Rs. 8,499. The price is high giving more options to the users. Spend some extra money and get the MMX A110 (well it gone over 10K so avoid it) or instead go for the Lava Iris 501 that comes with JB update. Other option is the Xolo B700 with a better battery or the Xolo A700 with same specs but with qHD resolution.
The Ninja A91 came in late and is pricy.
