Micromax A68 review
Design
The handset is 9.9mm thin and has a good built. I got the white color model wherein the front side is black with metallic grayish black color and glossy white back cover. There are 3 touch sensitive buttons on the front side. The power, 3.5mm jack and the micro USB port is placed on the top side and the volume rockers on the left side. On the rear side there is the camera with LED and speaker out.
Display
The capacitive touch screen is 4 inches with 800×480 pixels resolution. The touch is smooth and I did not experience any lags whatsoever. The fonts are sharp and image quality really good.
OS, Processor, Memory and Storage
The handset runs on ICS OS version 4.0.4 and is powered by MT6575 single core processor with PowerVR SGX 531 GPU. This is the same hardware as on the Micromax A90 single core version. The performance is good. The memory is 512MB and internal storage is 4GB.
- Of the 512MB RAM, 257MB is free.
- Of the 4GB internal storage you get 2.06 GB free and 409 MB of 503MB free for Apps.
Benchmark
- Quadrant Benchmark : 2616.
- Antutu Benchmark : 4462.
- Nenamark2 : 23.0 fps.
- Linpack : Single – 38 | Multi – 34.
- MultiTouch : 2 Point.
Phone Call
The sound is loud and clear. Call clarity using in call speaker is good. There is no video call option as there is no front camera.
Connectivity
There is no 3G support, but you can use the GPRS and the EDGE networks. Moreover there is WI-Fi without Wi-Fi hotspot. Other features are Bluetooth, USB and 3.5mm jack. USB and Bluetooth Tethering are supported.
There is no built in GPS but you can use the Mobile network and / or Wi-Fi for getting approx location (though it is not very accurate).
5MP FF Camera
The camera though of a 5MP fixed focus resolution can record videos in 720p resolution check out the sample still images (the link given below) and also check the sample 720p recording video attached at the end of the article.
The camera interface and the features are the same as found on Micromax A110.

Entertainment
With MX player you can view videos up to max 720p resolution. There is built in FM radio which works only with the earphones.
1600 mAh battery
I was not able to check the battery as I had to return the review unit ASAP. However based on the limited usage, I believe the battery will last for a full day with moderate usage.
Micromax A68 or Karbonn A15?
The Karbonn A15 is with a different processor and comes loaded with features like the Wi-Fi hotspot, built in GPS and 3G support. Now these things are missing on the Micromax A68. However MMX A68 does come with a fixed focus 5MP camera as compared with a 3MP on Kabronn A15. Moreover the A68 can record 720p videos and even play 720p videos using MX player, something the Karbonn A15 can’t.
If you really don’t care about the camera and 720p videos then the Karbonn A15 is the right choice. I don’t find the A68 interesting cause it lacks 3G, GPS and Wi-Fi hotspot, all of these features I use almost every day.
