Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 or the Micromax A240 is an upgraded version of the Doodle 1. This handset sports a huge screen of 5.7 inches with HD resolution, runs on Android 4.2 with 1GB RAM and 16GB on board storage. The A240 comes with non-removable battery and supports dual SIM. It is better than the Micromax Doodle A111, however for a price tag of around Rs. 19,500 this is way overpriced.

Micromax A240 Box Pack
Inside the box you will find the handset, an improved stylus with sponge like material on the ends, good quality earphone, USB cable, charger, user manual and warranty card. The Sar value mentioned on the box says 0.25 W/kg @ 1g head and 0.43 W/kg @ 1g body. A free flexible flip cover is also included.

Design and Display
The Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 no doubt is better than its predecessor the Doodle A111. Handset is slim and of a big size thanks to the 5.7 inch screen. The handset has got a curvy design that makes it comfortable to hold. The rear side is silver colored matte finish.

Power button is placed on the right, volume rockers on the left, micro USB port at the bottom and 3.5mm audio jack on the top side. The 5.7 inch screen supports 720p resolution, touch is very smooth and it feels really good using the stylus – it’s a better experience than as compared with Micromax Doodle 1. The viewing angle is good.

Built quality is good but the finishing on the lower side (below the micro USB port) needed some touchup, though it’s not that bad. You cannot remove the back cover, however a small portion of it can be removed for inserting SIM 1 and SIM 2.

MMX A240 weight is 196 grams, thickness is 9.55mm, breadth is 82.56mm and length is around 161mm. Handset comes with Accelerometer, light, proximity and magnetic sensors.

Memory, Storage and OS
The dual SIM MMX A240 comes with 1GB RAM and built in 16GB storage. There is no micro SD card support. Of the 16GB storage 1GB is allocated for apps and 13GB as phone storage. Of the 1GB RAM 581MB is available. The handset runs on the android 4.2.1 OS.

Inside the Hood
Specs are good unfortunately the Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 houses the same 1.2GHz MT6589 processor with PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU. For the price we would have expected at least a 1.5GHz quad core.

Camera, Entertainment and Gaming
The rear camera is with 12MP resolution and with single LED flash. Front camera is 5MP resolution. The front camera picture quality (with 5MP resolution) is not that great – good enough for self photography. The rear camera quality is decent enough and so is the FHD video recording (1080p @ 30fps) output. You can record and play full HD videos (1080p).

12 MP camera on doodle 2

I could play Dead Trigger in high graphics mode and even the Asphalt 7 game, however Modern combat 4 failed to load. I tried removing the other two games, uninstalling and reinstalling the MC4 game but for some reason it failed. You can play heavy games but some of the games may not work.

Others
This is a dual SIM handset with dual standby mode. It supports 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth all of these worked well. The handset also comes with gesture control – blow or shake to unlock – same features that are available on the Micromax Canvas 4. I could connect my pen drive using OTG cable, OTG is supported. In call / Speaker sound is loud and clear.

Non Removable Battery
The 2600 mAh non-removable battery gives a talktime of up to 8 hours and up to 220 hours of standby time. The handset does get heated up a little when playing games or using heavy apps.

Micromax A240 Canvas Doodle 2 review
The A240 Doodle 2 is better than the Doodle A111, however it comes powered by same MT6589 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz. The screen is of a good 5.7 inches with HD resolution, the improved stylus is impressive. The price of approx Rs. 19,500 (some stores selling for around 17,500) is way too much for this configuration.
