Lenovo’s A680 handset is an affordable quad core powered handset with dual SIM support. It is priced at under Rs. 9,000. Lenovo is a well known brand but is the handset worth the price, read the full review.

Box Pack
The box packing is quite simple. It includes the handset, travel charger, data cable, earphone, user guide, warranty information and 2000 mAh battery. SAR Value as mentioned on the box : 1.29W/kg @ 1g (Head) and 1.02W/kg @ 1g(Body).

Design, display and OS
The Lenovo handset is bulky, weight with battery is 166 grams and thickness is 11.14mm. The build quality is good. The quality as compared with other brands like Micromax, Lava, Spice and Karbonn is the same. There is the Lenovo brand attached to the handset, apart from that there is nothing extraordinary about this handset.

Power buttons are on the right, volume rockers on the left, 3.5 audio jack and micro USB port in placed on the top side. Rear is while color with matte finish. Part of the side is silver colored and the other part is white color. Handset is available in White and Black color options.

A680 comes with a big screen of 5 inches supporting FWVGA (854 x 480 pixels) resolution. Touch is good, color reproduction is good and viewing angles are just okay. There are accelerometer and proximity sensors. There is no light sensor.

The Lenovo A680 runs on the Android 4.2.2 OS with Lenovo’s customized user interface. OTA (Over the Air) updates are supported.

Memory and Storage
There is 1GB RAM and 4GB storage. Of the 4GB storage 2.19GB is allocated as phone / internal storage and 1.9GB is space for apps. Of the 1GB RAM 134MB is used and about 837MB is available on the first boot. OTG is not supported. Apps / games can be installed on external storage.

Performance
This handset is using the MT6582 MediaTek quad core chipset clocked at 1.3GHz with Mali 400 MP GPU. As you all know the same hardware is being used on many other handsets. Performance is good but the UI at times gets a bit laggy.

Benchmark scores

  • Quadrant Standard – 5849.
  • AnTuTu – 17427.
  • Vellamo – HTML5 1962, Metal 511.
  • Nenamark 2 –43.9fps
  • Multi touch – 2 points.

Gaming
Asphalt 7 game came pre-installed , however you will need to download the data files. I could easily install the modern combat 4 and the Asphalt 8 on to the external storage. When playing the MC4 game at times the buttons became unresponsive and I had problems with the accelerometer when playing the Asphalt 8 game. Check the gaming part in the video review.

Camera and entertainment
The rear camera of 5MP and the front camera of VGA resolution, both are fixed focus. Rear camera is without LED flash support. The camera output is okay and it can record 1080p videos at 30fps. The video quality is not that sharp. Overall do not expect too much from the camera. This handset can play full HD videos.

Others
Sound (loudspeaker / in call speaker) is loud and clear. There is 3G, Bluetooth, GPS and WiFi. No issues found.

Battery
The removable battery is of 2000 mAh capacity. With heavy usage the expected usage time is about 4 to 5 hours. When playing high end games the expected battery backup is around 3 to 4 hours.

Verdict
The Lenovo A680 powered by quad core processor is available for under Rs. 9000. The handset is bulky, camera is okay and light sensors are missing. Lenovo is a known brand but there are better handsets available with the same hardware for the price.

A680 for price tag of Rs. 8900.
