Lava Mobiles has launched a single core handset with a 4 inch running Gingerbread OS for Rs. 4,249. The handset is available on Flipkart, supports 2G and comes in Grey and an attractive Blue color option.

This is an entry level android powered phone with an outdated OS and without 3G support. Many budget conscious users really don’t care about the number of cores, memory, OS and 3G. And manufacturers are now targeting such users and concentrating more on the looks, rather than the features and of course the price.

The Iris 401E handset looks pretty impressive for this price. The 4 inch screen supports 800×480 pixels resolution. It’s Android 2.3 over a 1GHz single core processor. There is a single camera placed on the rear side of 3MP resolution complemented by LED flash. The Lava Iris 401E is 10mm thick.

As for the memory it’s 256MB RAM and approx 200 MB of free internal storage. The battery is of 1500 mAh capacity that gives a talktime of over 5 hours. Other features are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, micro USB and 3.5mm audio jack. Not sure if there is built in GPS.
