Lava Mobiles today launched a new handset called the Lava Icon. It is a dual SIM handset with 3G support powered by the well known 1.3GHz quad core processor. The Icon comes packed with a 13MP primary camera and priced at Rs. 11,990.

Lava Icon houses the 1.3GHz quad core processor (chipset unknown – probably MediaTek with Mali 400 GPU). The handset looks beautiful, got a metallic design and it is 7.7mm thick. Weight with battery is 143 grams. The 5 inch screen is protected with Asahi Dragontrail Glass and supports 1280 x 720 pixels resolution with 16.7m colours.

Android KitKat runs out of the box with 16GB internal storage (12.5GB for apps and user space), 2GB RAM and 32GB micro SD card support. The key highlight is the 13 megapixel camera using SONY EXMOR sensor BSI II with f/2.0 aperture. Rear camera is with dual LED flash support. Front camera is of 5MP resolution using BSI II sensor with f/2.4 aperture. Full HD video recording and playback is supported.

Lava Icon for Rs. 11,990 is pricy especially with a 1.3GHz quad core processor. I am not sure about how much different would it make when it comes to the camera quality, but one can actually buy an octa core / quad core for under Rs. 10,000 – that too with a 64 bit processor.
