Lava E-Tab Xtron+ review and Unboxing – upgraded Xtron

Lava E-Tab Xtron+ is an upgraded version of E-tab Xtron with a slightly better battery, HDMI port and Jelly Bean 4.2. This tablet is available with a price tag of Rs. 6,990.

Box pack
The back box contains the tablet, charger, earphone, data cable, OTG cable, few goodies (subscription / discount etc.), warranty card and user manual.

Design and Display
The tab has got a premium look with its black and silver color (matte) combination. This tab is 11.9mm thick and weight is around 360 grams. Built quality is very good. The screen is 7 inches with resolution 1024×600 pixels. And since there are no physical navigational buttons the actual usable resolution is 1024×552 (48 pixels are used by the onscreen navigation buttons).

When I switched on the tablet the first thing that I noticed is the viewing angle was not really good. You will not be able to view the screen perfectly when you tilt it a little bit. (Check the video).  But if you change the default wallpaper it gets a little better. Also if you invert the screen such that the camera is at the bottom – screen will auto rotate – the viewing angle is much better that way. The tab did come with a protective screen guard but it was not scratch resistant and hence I removed the screen guard. You might want to spend some extra money on a better screen guard. The Xtron+ comes with G-Sensors.

Memory, storage and OS
Of the 1GB RAM, 576MB is free and of the 8GB internal storage 504MB is assigned for apps of which 433MB is available and 5.83GB as phone storage (5.47GB available for user). The tab runs on jelly Bean 4.2.2.

Inside the Hood
It houses the same chipset as seen on Lava Xtron tablet i.e. Rockchip RK30board coupled with Mali 400 GPU. The combination is really good and powerful, worth for the price.

Benchmark Scores

  • Quadrant Benchmark : 3622.
  • Antutu Benchmark : 10365.
  • NenaMark2 : 63.9fps.
  • Vellamo : HTML5 1545, Metal 452.
  • Multi Touch : 5 point.

Gaming and Entertainment
I tried looking for Nova 3 but it not get listed in Google Play also tried MC3 but found MC4 listed (I have not bought the game yet). I think the tab can easily play many low to high end games. You can check the brief demo of Just Shout game in the video review.

You can watch full HD movies with ease. There is HDMI port that can be used to connect to HDTV.

Dual Camera
There is 2MP rear camera and a front VGA camera. The camera quality is okay, good enough to share on social networks.

Others
Wi-Fi worked well I usually use the Wi-Fi to download apps on the review unit. Sound is a little low but about the same as on may other low cost.

Problem with YouTube?
Even before I started working on this review I got comments from many users complaining that YouTube does not work on the Xtron+ tablet. There was no YouTube app pre-installed by default, so I had to download it. And yes YouTube did not work. I could see the videos listed but when I tried it, it did not work. I then tried another app that could play YouTube videos, and that too did not work. The last option was to use the default browser and launch m.youtube.com, unfortunately even that effort failed. So I guess it’s some issue with the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 OS.

Battery
the Xtron came with 3500 mAh battery and this Xtron+ is with 3700 mAh battery. The tab gives a decent time of 3 to 4 hours depending on your usage.

Lava E-Tab Xtron+ review
A good tablet for the price, loaded with dual core processor + Mali 400 GPU and running on Android 4.2.2 OS. Unfortunately there is some issue with YouTube, probably Lava will fix that with a JB update.
