Gionee has finally started rolling KitKat updates for its handsets. They started with their premium brand the Gionee Elife S5.5 and another handset the CTRL V5. These will not be the only handsets that will get the update, good news is that the other handsets like Gionee M2, Gionee Elife E7 etc. will also get the update (probably in July / August).

Most likely Gionee will be providing the KitKat update on most of its handset, probably will leave out the low end models. Gionee made the KitKat announcement today via Facebook starting from Elife S5.5.

The Android 4.4 update for S5.5 is now available. Just head on to settings, about phone and check the system updates. All you need to do is download the update and install it. The updates are via OTA (over the air). If for some reason you are not able to update you can get the same done from the service centre but do call and check with the service centre if they have the required files for update.

Gionee rolls out KitKat update

The Gionee phones were running on the Amigo UI based on the Android 4.2 OS. Android 4.4 update was needed and Gionee has done this at a good time. If you have a Gionee handset keep a check on the software update every alternate day, you might get the break!
