The Gionee (Chinese brand) has now launched a 4.6 inch quad core handset (Gionee Dream D1) with super AMOLED screen for a price tag of Rs. 17,999. The handset is listed on the Gionee website with the buy now page form based option.
The Gionee Dream D1 will be made available in all leading stores in India by end of March 2013. The hardware specifications seem similar to the Micromax A116 except for a smaller screen with AMOLED display and some enhanced features.
The 4.6 inch (4.65 inch to be precise) supports 1280×720 pixel resolution that comes to 315.83ppi. It’s Super AMOLED Plus screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection. The handset runs on Jelly Bean OS Version 4.1 and any future updates from Gionee will be via OTA (Over the Air).
The Dream D1 also termed as the slimmest and clearest handset is just 8.6mm thick. It’s powered by 1.2GHz quad core probably the same MediaTek as found on the MMX A116. The camera is of 8MP resolution with panorama option that can capture 99 shots in one click. I think full HD video recording and playback is supported.
There is also the built in DTS i.e. Digital Theatre System for enhanced audio output. The RAM is 1GB and internal storage is 4GB. You also get 16GB micro SD card absolutely free. Looking at the features and the freebie, the price does look good enough. Even Samsung Galaxy grand is not offering AMOLED screen + Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection.
