Datawind never expected such a tremendous response for the low cost Aakash tablet ever since it was launched. The figures are out it was around 1 Lakh orders per day and in 14 days since launch the company got about 14 Lakh orders. Compared with the Apple iPad that sold around 10 Lakh iPads in 30 days, the response is too good.

This could be an exaggerated figure because the whole ordering system was not properly managed and the only option was cash on delivery. The figures may most probably be the form that users had submitted, but many may be bogus or incorrect. It would be better if Datawind reveals the number of tablets dispatched rather than the orders received.

But I am sure there will still be a huge response for Aakash tablet PC and more orders will keep pouring in.   According to Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO – Datawind in an interview with ET told – they never expected such massive response from both individual and corporate buyers.  They have now decided to bring up 3 factories in Hyderabad, Cochin and Noida which will help them supply about 70K to 75K units per day.

Datawind also started online orders with Ncarry.com with initial lot of 30,000 tablets which has already been booked. The newer version UbiSlate 7+ with 700 Mhz processor is what the company will be releasing in mid January 2012. Hope there are no more delays.
