Celkon mobiles have now launched a 2.4 inch basic phone with AAA battery support. The handset also comes with built in battery along with AAA battery slot that can be used as an emergency battery backup.
This is not the first handset with AAA support, in fact Olive and some other brands had launched handsets with AAA option. The main advantage of this handset is you can use a AAA battery that is available almost everywhere and use it to power on the phone.
The Celkon C779 is basically targeted at rural consumers who are still deprived of 24/7 electricity. Also use full where there are a lot of power issues. The C779 is a very basic phone with basic features like 2.4 inch screen, alphanumeric keypad, 1.3MP camera, Bluetooth and 3.5mm audio jack. The handset supports dual SIM.
The C779 is priced at Rs. 1,699. The built in battery is of 1800 mAh capacity that should give a very good standby / talktime – looking at the specifications. I don’t think the AAA option will really attract many users.
