The Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) model G551JK-DM053H houses an Intel Core i7 4th gen processor coupled with NVIDIA GeForce GTX850M GPU. It is running Windows 8.1 (64 bit) with 8GB RAM. This laptop is made for gaming users and carries a price tag of approx Rs. 82,000.

Box pack
The box packing is impressive. I got the review unit (already used with missing carry bag and gaming headset). Inside the box you will find the laptop, charging adapter, user manual, warranty card, cable tie, gaming mouse, gaming headset and carry bag.

Design and Features
The laptop has really got that gaming look, outer body has got modern bold lines with brushed aluminum finish (Black colour with matte finish). The red and the black colour combination is followed throughout, you will even find that on the keyboard. There is ROG logo on the lid that illuminates when the laptop is powered on.

Asus ROG G551JK review and unboxing

Build quality is very good. When you open up the lid you will see the black keyboard with characters in red, though in some lighting conditions the characters are not easily visible (when the laptop is off), but don’t worry wait until you switch on the laptop. It’s back-lit keyboard with red back-lit light. Looks really cool.

Benchmark
GeekBench :- 2969 (single core) and 11509 (Multi core).
Nova Bench :- 1020.

Gaming
The hardware is very powerful and can easily play high end games in high graphic quality mode. I tried Counter strike global offensive that worked very well. And I also play the FarCry 4. The FarCry 4 played well, I tried playing in different graphics quality mode.

  1. NVIDIA mode – it failed, too much lag, no good.
  2. Ultra mode – it was playable, smooth but some textures were not viewable (black colour).
  3. High mode – better, more smooth game play but some textures were completely black.
  4. Medium mode – the game played really well in this mode and in fact all textures were perfectly viewable.

Battery
There is 5000 mAh 6 cell battery that drains faster while playing high end games. I played FarCry 4 for about 47 minutes, battery dropped by 74%. Laptop heats up when playing such games that again is pretty much normal.

Verdict
As the name suggest, this laptop is made for gaming users that performs really well, can play many high end games and gives just about an average battery life depending on your usage. A good laptop but screen quality is kind of disappointing, for the price one would have expected better quality and viewing angles. Looking at the screen quality it does look pricy.
