After the success of Zenfone series, Asus has launched the PadFone Mini in India; it will be available soon for Rs. 15,999. It is a combination of a phone and a tablet – a hybrid. The smartphone with 4 inch screen can instantly transform into a 7 inch tablet by connecting it with the tablet dock.

The PadFone Mini smartphone unit is powered by Intel Atom Z2560 dual core processor and it sports a 4 inch IPS screen with 800 x 480 pixels resolution. Now the tablet unit (the dock) comes with its own built in battery of 2100 mAh and it sports a 7 inch screen with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution. It is the smartphone that houses the main hardware so you need to connect the phone to the tablet dock for the tablet to get functional.

This PadFone Mini runs outdated Jelly Bean OS with Asus Zen UI, the company will roll out KitKat update, probably may already do that before the device goes on sales. There is 1GB on-board RAM, 8GB storage and 64GB micro SD card support.

This is a dual SIM smartphone / tablet hybrid with 3G support. Key features are 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth 4.0. Phone weight is 116 grams and the Pad weight is about 260 grams. There are dual cameras – 8MP AF on the rear and 1.9MP FF on the front.

The PadFone Mini Smartphone unit houses a 1200 mAh battery while the Pad unit comes with 2100 mAh battery. Asus PadFone Mini will be available soon probably might go on sale via Flipkart for Rs. 15,999.
