The Apple iPhone 5 has been announced and it will soon find its way into the Indian market probably by October/November. The iPhone 5 comes with some latest features but India will really need to cope up with it to make full use of the new iPhone.
The iPhone 5 comes with a nano-SIM card slot, which means Indian carriers will need an upgrade. In fact some of the carriers have already placed ordered for the newest Nano SIM’s which should be available when the official launch happens. Without the Nano SIM’s the latest iPhone will be useless, and hence it is the first and foremost priority.
iPhone 5 Design
When compared with its predecessor (iPhone 4S) the iPhone 5 is taller because of a bigger 4 inch screen but it is lighter, thinner and works much faster. The Nano SIM is about 44% smaller than the micro SIM’s and it was implemented to trim down the thickness, make the phone lighter and slimmer. Apple engineers did succeed and what you have is the iPhone 5 which is just 7.6mm thin.
As with the other iPhones this one too comes with 5 dedicated buttons, the volume rockers (individual buttons for increasing and decreasing the volume) on left side along with a ring/silent button for muting phone ring / alerts etc, home button at the front bottom and the power / sleep button on the top.
The Apple iPhone 5 is perfectly crafted with awesome finishing touch made of Aluminium and glass body.
Display screen
A bigger screen of 4.0 inches with 16:9 aspect ratio is perfect for watching movies. The display resolution is at 1136×640 pixels (326 ppi). The screen incorporates the retina display technology along with Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating on front side. Not to mention the display quality will be my better than the previous models.
Processor
iPhone 5 come with double the computing power, thanks to the A6 chipset that it houses. As compared with iPhone 4S this handset will be twice as powerful. The A6 chip also consumes less power. Sadly Apple does not disclose much info about the processors, they just talk in terms of “2x faster“ and so on.
Camera
A camera of 8 MP resolution also called iSight is placed on the rear side with LED flash and a front facing camera of 1.2 MP resolution on the front side for use with FaceTime. The rear 8MP camera is full auto focus and with features like face detection in images as well as videos, video stabilization (improved), video / photo geotagging and 1080P HD recording via rear camera and 720p HD recording via front camera (both at 30fps).
Connectivity
The iPhone 5 supports 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Assisted GPS / GLONASS and Bluetooth 4.0. Also supports dual carrier HSDPA / HSPA+ and dual band Wi-Fi (802.11n 2.4GHz and 5GHz). The 4G LTE however will not work in India.
Battery
Apple claims that the built-in Li-ion battery life is about 8 hours on LTE network (browsing), up to 8 hours of talktime and one can play videos for almost 10 hours and audio for up to 40 hours. Standby time is around 225 hours and continuous Wi-Fi usage about 10 hours.
The iOS6 OS
Though the iPhone 5 does come with the latest iOS6 OS some of the newest features will not work in India. This includes Siri, turn by turn navigational Maps / live traffic and Siri integration with Twitte/Facebook.
Inside the box
The box pack contains iPhone 5, USB cable, documentation, power adapter and specially designed Apple EarPods with remote and Mic.
Apple iPhone 5 price in India
Price is currently unknown, any guesses? I believe it will be over Rs. 40,000.
