Google along with Nestle had organized a contest to promote the Android 4.4 also called KitKat. Google had partnered with Nestle for using the KitKat name based on the popular Nestle KitKat chocolate bar.

For the contest they produced special edition of Nestle KitKat bar with special wrapper. These special chocolates were made available in 19 countries and all that the consumer had to do is buy the chocolate and send the code printed on the wrapper. They could get a chance to WIN the Nexus 7 tablet. There were around 1000 tablets to be won.

This contest was also available to Indian users and some users who won actually got the older version of Nexus 7 instead of the 2013 edition. Interestingly the winners from other 18 countries got the latest Nexus 7 2013 edition.

KitKat India via a tweet replied that the nexus7 tabs were available in India in September (the contest date), whereas the new version were launched only in November.

KitKat Android 4.4 winners in India

The Indian winner were in a shock as they were expecting the nexus 7 2013 instead got an older version. In India we always get the latest technology a bit late and I guess in month of September KitKat India sent whatever was available, am not sure if they notified the users about the version in advance.
