There were news about Amazon coming up with their own branded smartphone, it turned out to be true. Amazon today announced their first smartphone called the Amazon Fire phone. The fire phone is designed by Amazon and comes with features that are not available on other smartphones.
Amazon Fire phone houses a new sensor called dynamic perspective that can recognize a lot of actions / gestures and can also detect where the user head is relative to the phone. Dynamic perspective makes use of 4 infrared LED’s plus 4 more specialized cameras built on the front face. These cameras are power efficient and provide real time data.
There is a new Amazon shopping app made especially for the Fire and it makes use of dynamic perspective, just peek and instantly see the close up of back / front dress (for example). Another example is the Lili game wherein user can move their head to look around corners from the characters viewpoint.
Amazon will also be introducing the Dynamic Perspective SDK so developers can build app over this groundbreaking technology. There is another technology called firefly (with dedicated firefly button) that can recognize signs, cards, emails, phone numbers, web address, bar code etc. Not only that the Firefly can also recognize 245K TV episodes, 35 million songs and 70 million products. The smartphone also comes integrated with exclusive Amazon services like Mayday, ASAP, X-Ray, Second Screen etc.
Inside the hood the Amazon Fire houses the Qualcomm Snapdragon quad core processor clocked at 2.2GHz coupled with Adreno 330 GPU. This smartphone runs on Fire OS 3.5.0 with 2GB RAM and optional 32GB / 64GB storage. Users also get free cloud storage space for Amazon content.
There is LCD HD screen of size 4.7 inches supporting HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels). Handset is 8.9mm thick and weight is about 160 grams. Also included is a 13MP rear AF camera with LED flash and front 2.1MP camera. FHD video recording is supported. Both front and rear cameras can shoot 1080p videos.
Key features are 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n/ac), GPS (GLONASS), NFC and Bluetooth 3.0. There are magnetic sensor, dynamic perspective sensor, accelerometer, barometer, light and proximity sensors.
Amazon Fire Phone comes with 2400 mAh battery with up to 22 hours talk time and up to 11 hours of video playback. This handset is priced starting from $199 (32GB). No word about its launch in the Indian markets.
